Geological HeritageToyooka City

Takeno River

Pastoral landscape extending near the calm and clear waters of the Takeno River. The surrounding area flourished when the mines produced gold and other minerals.

(1)Dan-no-shirataki Waterfalls
A waterfall with a a beautiful smooth rock floor. It was formed of tuff at the time of the formation of the Sea of Japan.

(2)Kuruson Buddha
A huge rock formed of rhyolite during and after the formation of the Sea of Japan.

(3)Takeno Mine Ruins
The mines operated until 1948 with their associated facilies. It is hydrothermal vein type mine mainly producing gold.

Todoroki Drum Dance
Prefectural intangible folk cultural property. Though its origin and history are unknown, the dance is considered to have been established at least at the beginning of 19th century.
