Lava and debris flow sediments caused by volcanic activity after the formation of the Japanese Archipelago are widely distributed. Since lava is hard and erosion-resistant, valleys and waterfalls are formed.
(1)Ojiro Valley
Valley in the headstream of the Yada River. Clear water flows through the deep valley. It covers 12km from Hyonosen-goe (960m) in Hyonosen Ushiroyama Nagisan Quasi-national Park to downstream Akioka.
(2)Mikata Highlands
Pleasant highland having skiing areas. Hard volcanic rocks are distributed to make some large and small waterfalls.
(3)Niiya-hattandaki Waterfalls
A waterfall having 32m of water head falling from the lava which had flown on tuff breccia (debris flow sediments deposits).
(4)National Rhododendron Park Festival (May)
An event held when almost 7,000 rhododendrons collected from across the nation blossom vividly. The National Ladle Throwing Competition is held to compete throwing a ladle the greatest distance.
