Kinosaki Hot Springs

This hot spring has been known since the Heian Period, having a history of 1,300 years. The hot spring town is built along the Otani River with the seven public hot springs forming an attractive landscape of a traditional hot spring resort with willow trees lining the riverside, an arched bridge, and river walls using basalt from Genbudo.

(1)Kinosaki Hot Springs
Kinosaki is the historical hot spring town discovered by the great Buddhist monk Dochi. It has seven public hot springs, where many artists and writers visited since old times and is cited in their literature. During the restoration from the North Tajima Earthquake, the town was rebuilt with a focus on the prevention of disasters.

(2)Sasaura
A bay downstream of the Maruyama River. Remains of a ria coast cove (eroded coast).

(3)Toshima Marsh
A marsh supporting Oriental White Storks, reintroduced after a long absence. The surrounding area was registered as a Ramsar Convention wetland in 2012, so that protection activities are being conducted.

(4)Kinosaki Danjiri Festival
A traditional authentic festival of the Shisho Shrine which started over 200 years ago. The festival is held October 14 (festival eve) and 15 (festival day) every year.
