Geological HeritageKami Town

Iso

A deep valley was formed by the Yada River eroding the hard bedrock (Yada River rhyolite).

(1)Yadagawa Valley
The sediments of pyroclastic flow erupted by volcanic activity before the formation of the Sea of Japan are very hard but made a deep valley while resisting erosion.

(2)Rice Terraces of Wasabu
One of the best 100 rice terraces in Japan. Thease are located in the highest place in Muraoka District, where the landform of the landslide is used in people’s living.

(3)Midori-no-tawaraishi
The outcrop of basalt in Midori (approx. 0.22 million years ago) is a vertical rock wall of approx. 70m in width and 20m in height. The diameter of columnar structure extending almost vertically is almost 50cm, and the section is shaped into square, pentagon, and hexagon beautifully.

Iso Yadagawa Festival (July)
With the theme of “Restore the clear stream to live with nature”, the festival is held every July. Brass band performance by children, fairs, release of ayu (sweetfish), and trout catching events are provided.
