Sand is cumuluted near the river mouth of Kishida River by raging waves and seasonal winds from the Sea of Japan to form dunes, on which a town was established. Unique townscape showing respective characteristics of fishery, agriculture, and commerce can be seen.
(1)Hamasaka Onsenkyo
This is relatively new hot spring town including Shichikama Hot Springs discovered during drilling of a well in 1958, Futsukaichi Hot Springs drilled afterward, and Hamasaka Hot Springs discovered during drilling of a snow-melting well. Novel measures are taken to distribute hot spring water to respective houses in Hamasaka.
(2)Hamasaka Kaigan Garden of Pine
Hamasaka seashore is composed of three rows of sand beaches. It is pleasant to see a linear and relatively wide beach surrounded with pine woods for preventing wind and sand, especially in the morning and evening when the seashore is calm.
(3)Shin'onsen Town San'in Kaigan Geopark Center
The visitor’s center of San’in Kaigan Geopark Center built in front of Hamasaka Sun Beach. This facility provides introduction on the whole geopark area, exhibitions of rocks and fossils showing formation of the Sea of Japan, and an experiencing corner for learning about the relationship between rocks and water.
(4)Utsuno Shrine Kirinjishi Dance (July)
Passed down from the middle of the Edo Period. They present the dance in the regular summer festival in July, Kawasuso Festival, and go around the town as a leader of portable shrine procession. They valiantly dance in front of each house playing for well-being of the family.
