Located in the river mouth of the Izushi River flowing through the Toyooka Basin which used to be a cove in the Jomon Period, the Izushi has been a place for people’s living since old times. Izushi flourished as a castle town in the Edo Period, and the townscape of that time is well preserved. A beautiful landscape is provided by the red earthen walls made of granite clay in the Japanese Sake breweries of the town. Owing to the good quality of pottery stones produced in the surrounding area, ceramics featuring a white texture called Izushiyaki were generated in this area.
（1）Townscape of Izushi
Izushi is located on the coast line of the Jomon Period, where people have long lived. A number of tourists visit this town because the atmosphere of the castle town in the Edo Period is well preserved.
（2）Izushi Shrine
The First Shrine in Tajima, known as a legend of Amenohiboko, a legendary immigrant from the Korean Peninsula. Trading across the Sea of Japan and Maruyama River can be imagined.
（3）Mt. Konosumi
A mountain castle site located at 140m above sea level in the Miyauchi District hosting Izushi Shrine. The place was said to be the base of the Yamana Family, a military governor in the Nanbokucho Period (14 c) and a center of the Tajima Region.
（4）Izushi Castle Festival (November 3)
The Feudal Load Procession with approximately 120 costumed children and approximately 30 men as Spear Carriers parades in the town.
