In the San’in Kaigan Geopark, Geopark guides and staff members of related facilities will guide you around the Geopark. They have a great deal of knowledge of the must-see spots in the Geopark, and the relationship between such spots and the Geopark. You can also ask for information on good restaurants in the area!

◆Comment from the Guide

Ojiro-ku joined the league of “The Most Beautiful Villages in Japan.” As many as 99.9% of black wagyu cattle raised throughout Japan have some blood of Tajima cattle born and bred in Ojiro in them. Ojiro-ku is the birthplace of wagyu. You can also enjoy meals using soft-shell turtles and sturgeon grown in the natural environment on the steep hills surrounded by mountains 1,000 meters or higher in altitude.

【Guided Tour Details】

(1) Visiting waterfalls
– Kusube Valley (Kaname-no-taki, sandan-no-taki)-Yoshitaki-terraced rice paddies of Ueyama-Niiyahattandaki Falls
We also explain about plants that grow on the mountain.

(2) Forest of Ancient Lifestyle Experience
– Here you can see the remains of houses in the early Jomon period (7,000 years ago.), fragments of broken Jomon earthenware, stoneware, and reconstructed houses.
There is also a building where excavated artifacts are exhibited. Through learning about ancient times, and experiencing the lifestyles of the ancient people, we can come to appreciate the value of nature and the harmonious relationship between nature and humans, as well as the connections between people.

(3) Cattle ranch and terraced rice paddies
On this course, you can visit two ranches, then the terraced rice paddies of Ueyama and the rest of Ojiro-ku. You can see the landscape of terraced rice paddies, highly symbolic of Ojiro.

(1) Shower climbing
We explain how the valley is formed, while enjoy the beauty of Kusube Valley and other valleys in Ojiro.

(2) Snow trekking
Wearing a pair of snowshoes, we can go to where we cannot usually venture in snowclad Ojiro. You can enjoy new discoveries and experiences.

(3)Outdoor camping experiences
Utilizing the geographical features of a ski resort, you can camp in a snow hole or tent in winter, or simply a tent in other seasons. You can also realize the harshness and gentleness of nature.

【Guided Tour Details】

[Course 1] On this course, you can appreciate nature while looking up the star-studded sky, which you can never see in an urban environment. You can learn about the constellations for each season, myths related to the constellations, and the relationship between the starlit sky and environmental problems.

[Course 2] On this course, you can interact with beech or horse-chestnut trees in various ways. You can climb a tree using a rope. Or you can test the health of trees by listening to the sound of water going up the trees.
