Guides available in the Geopark

In the San’in Kaigan Geopark, Geopark guides and staff members of related facilities will guide you around the Geopark. They have a great deal of knowledge of the must-see spots in the Geopark, and the relationship between such spots and the Geopark. You can also ask for information on good restaurants in the area!

【Guided Tour Details】

(1) Tottori Castle, selected as one of Japan’s 100 Greatest Castles
– You can find evidence of the geological movement of the earth in the mountain. You can learn the history of samurai in the stone walls of Tottori Castle. There is also "Jinfukaku," a French Renaissance-style residence (designated as a national important cultural property), located at the foot of the mountain.

(2) Strolling around the town and finding good restaurants
– You can find lingering remnants of the castle town as it was in the past. Communicate with local people, and savor typical Tottori meals.

(3) Experience light and shadow by walking in the sand dunes.
– Experience the true sand dunes, a masterpiece of sand art created by the power of nature. We will also introduce the rare plants that grow only in the sand dunes.

(4) We can arrange special courses on your request.
For example:
– Tottori Toshogu Shrine
– Tottori Castle remains
– Tottori Sand Dunes
– Enjoying the view of shallot flowers grown in the sand dunes (only in the flower season)
– Enjoying the sand dunes, mountains and the sea from the top of the castle hill (Remains of "Taikoganaru," the site of the headquarters of the army of Hideyoshi Toyotomi) (Please note that the guides can only provide you with explanations. They will not assist you in climbing the hill. Please climb the hill by yourself.)
– Strolling around the town and enjoying good restaurants

One hour for a group of up to 10 people: 1,000 yen
One hour for a group of up to 20 people: 2,000 yen
One hour for a group of up to 30 people: 3,000 yen
One hour for a group of up to 40 people: 4,000 yen
For a larger group, please contact us in advance. For guided tours of the castle ruins or Jinfukaku, please visit us at "Kinanseya" on the day of the tour. Free of charge.

Hours (Last admission to Jinfukaku is at 16:30; it closes at 17:00. Admission fee required.)

We hope, as guides, to provide visitors with opportunities to observe the lives of insects, plants, and animals living in the unusual environment of the Tottori Sand Dunes and enjoy its desert-like landscape. In the Mt. Kyushozan area, we can show you around the Tottori Castle remains, explaining the important remnants of the castle against the historical background of Hashiba Hideyoshi’s attacks on Tottori Castle.
